About a 20-minute bus ride from Blair Atholl is the town of Pitlochry. We decided to spend a half day in Pitlochry looking around, shopping, and having lunch. We purchased tickets for about £3 to get to Pitlochry from Blair Atholl and back. Also, we had to keep up with the time as the bus only returned at certain times. On the way to Pitlochry, we passed several other little towns that would have been fun to explore another time. In this post, Kristine, Diane, and I are still in the Highlands on our own before Kristine’s Scottish Writer’s Retreat 2018, which was the next week. Number One London Tours’ 2019 Scottish Retreat will be based at Gargunnock House near the town of Stirling.
Pitlochry was not huge. We walked the main street, shopped in many souvenir and clothes shops, and discovered a factory store that sold gems made from heather. We also stopped in a sweet shop and bought fudge and other goodies, and even checked out the thrift stores. Coffee shops abounded. We ate lunch at a nice family-owned pub.

Flowers were in bloom everywhere in the town. Pitlochry also had a WWI memorial.

Below is the Heathergems factory. Very interesting. Resin is used to finish the products. You can check out how this jewelry is made HERE. A few examples followed by where it is made is also below:

I snapped a few different oddities just walking down the street.

OK, on to Glasgow next.
