I love perfume. I feel incomplete if I leave my house without applying some sort of scent. Just enough so I can smell it. I really don’t care if anyone else does, but it is always nice to get a compliment on one’s perfume.

Some of my early favorites from the past:
–who didn’t like Love’s and Rive Gauche, Charlie, and Babe?
Some of my 20’s through 40’s favorites:
–mostly Estée Lauder and Lancome to get the gifts with purchase!
Now I like a variety:
–very sweet and floral
–one of my favorites, an androgynous scent from Thymes of London
But my all time favorite perfume/cologne is another Estée Lauder one: Aliage.
–it’s a bit hard to find, but it’s still my favorite
Aliage was introduced in 1972 and was developed by Francis Camail. The Estée Lauder website lists it as a mixture of jasmine, citrus, nutmeg, rose, armoise, oakmoss, vetiver, and cedarwood scents. It is usually described as sporty.
From an article I found online that was dated 2008, I found out that Mr. Camail works from his own laboratory in Grasse, France. I am familiar with that city because I remember that the Fragonard house has a factory there that can be toured. Mr. Camail also developed the Charlie scent, as well as Giorgio, Eternity, Ivoire, and Bond #9, besides Aliage. He does not work for one perfume house but contracts out to many. His is an “old-world, artisan craftsman skill that can not be taught . . . His skill are apparently God given.”
What is your favorite perfume or cologne?
While I don’t use perfume on a daily basis (deodorant will do many days), I do enjoy wearing it when I go out for a special or semi-special occasion. I like the mild scent, ever so soft and mild. Will have to try Aliage one of these days, sounds great.
Yes, mild is best, Silvia. Especially in office buildings and on elevators. 😉
