Slough is a term in hydrology that refers to:
- Slough, a stream distributary or anabranch, or in some cases, a regular stream.
More localized meanings of slough are:
- a muddy marsh in the British Isles.
- a swamp or shallow lake system with trees (Eastern and South Eastern United States).
- a secondary channel of a river delta, without trees (Pacific coast of North America).
- a pond, often alkaline, often a glacieal “pothole” (prairies of North America).
My favorite guitarist, Rhett Butler, will be playing with fellow fingerstyle guitarist, Adam Rafferty, at McDavid Studio at Bass Hall in Fort Worth on Friday, January 25th. If you haven’t heard Rhett yet, you are missing out. I have had the pleasure of hearing him play numerous times by himself and with his band and with some of his own guitar heroes including Billy McLaughlin and Pierre Bensusan, and twice with accordionmeister Joel Guzman. The Rhett Butler Group is working on new music, too!
